BONNYMAN — Deputies with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office made their second meth-related arrest in as many days after discovering an active meth lab Wednesday morning.
Authorities arrived at the residence on Harveyton Road while following up on a tip and attempting to serve an arrest warrant, said Chief Deputy Tony Eversole. Several people were located inside the residence who informed deputies the subject they were attempting to contact was inside a small building in the rear of the property.
“They advised he was in the shack where the meth lab was contained,” Eversole said. “Officers made entry and located it (the lab), and then secured the area.”
Deputies contacted a hazardous materials team with the Kentucky State Police, one of whom described the scene as a working lab that had to be neutralized. No finished product was located in the lab area, though two people were arrested. Richard Combs, 59, of Bonnyman, and Daniel Combs, 51, are each facing charges of manufacturing meth, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, and possession of meth precursors. Manufacturing meth is a Class B felony, publishable by a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Wednesday’s arrests follow on the heels of two people charged with operating an indoor marijuana grow operation, while also in possession of meth precursors. That arrest was also made on Harveyton Road in Bonnyman, less than a half mile from the scene of the alleged meth lab. Deputies arrested Glenda Neace and Earl Feltner in that case.
Meth has become more prevalent in Perry County in the past few months, Eversole said, as deputies have now located three in the county so far this year. He said he expects it to get worse, and urged anyone with information about possible meth labs in the county to call the sheriff’s office.
“We do think there’s going to be more of it,” Eversole said. “That’s the reason we tell everybody, make sure you make the complaint, file the complaint, and let us come out.”
