GILBERT – It was a perfect scenario for junior Mitch Bobbera of Mingo Central to be the hero on Thursday night against Man with a walk-off hit.

It was the bottom of the 7th inning, the bases loaded, two outs and a full count. All Bobbera had to do was get a base hit. The junior lined a clutch single to right field to knock in the winning run and help the Miners defeat Man 9-to-8 at the Gilbert baseball field.

The two teams battled back and forth and the Hillbillies had taken the lead 8-7 in the top of the 7th inning scoring three runs.

Man helped Mingo Central by committing eight errors in the game.

Garth Simpkins led Mingo Central with three hits including a pair of doubles, while Alex Lee had two doubles. Joe May, Matt Lester, B.J. Warden, Todd Slone and Bobbera each had hits for the Miners. May had three stolen bases for MCHS.

Lester picked up the win in relief for Mingo Central pitching the final two innings. Simpkins started the game on the mound going five innings for interim head coach Roger Staton.

Braden Griffin led Man with three hits including a home run and a double. Cody Carter was the losing pitcher.

The win improved Mingo Central’s record to 5-11. They are playing some home games at Gilbert against teams like Man, Wyoming East and Westside. Then they are playing some home games at Lefty Hamilton Park in Williamson because it is a better location and easier drive for some of the other teams on their schedule.

They are scheduled to play Lincoln County at Lefty Hamilton on Monday. The home game with Scott on Friday was postponed due to inclement weather.

Score by innings:

Man … 1 2 0 0 1 1 3 – 8 7 8

MC …. 3 3 0 1 0 0 2 – 9 10 0
