PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates dropped three games in the Panther Classic played at Pikeville this past weekend including a perfect game pitched by junior Jacob Hamilton.

The two losses saw Belfry drop to 7-11 on the season.

In the first game on Friday, the Pirates were shutout 9-0 by the host Panthers.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, with one out, Austin Priode doubled to right center. Then Payton Hamilton walked, Jake Hamilton was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Pikeville got a run on a sac fly by Clay Garris to BHS left fielder Cameron Johnson.

Turner Altman struck out, but was safe at first on an error by catcher Zack Francisco, scoring P. Hamilton. J. Hamilton then scored on an error by first baseman Madison Ghormley. The Panthers led 3-0 after the first.

In the 3rd inning Priode led off with single to left, then with one out, J. Hamilton homered over left field fence for Pikeville. Then Garris tripled to center field and Altman singled to left, scoring Garris.

In the 4th inning Mikey McDonald led off with single down the third base line. Then Cody Estep walked, P. Hamilton got an RBI single to left and J. Hamilton was hit by a pitch for the second time. Estep scored on Sac Fly to Joey Duty.

The Panthers tacked on another run in the 6th inning when Priode singled to center and scored on 2-out single to by J. Hamilton.

J. Hamilton was the winning pitcher, firing a perfect game and striking out 19 Belfry batters, including the first 10 he faced. Keaton Taylor finally got the bat on the ball for BHS with a fly out, but then Hamilton struck out the next nine Belfry batters.

Francisco had a grounder to first base to end game. Pikeville improved to 9-10 for the season after the win.

On Saturday, Belfry lost to Letcher Central 8-4. They were behind 2-0, but plated three runs in the 3rd inning.

Duty got to first after being hit by a pitch leading off the inning and then Zac Fields smacked an RBI single to right, which was followed by a 2-run single to left field by Eli Huddle.

Belfry scored one run in 6th as Anthony Francisco led off with walk. He then scored on 2-out single to center by Fields.

The leading batters for LCC were Jordon Short and Nick King, both went 4-for-5. King and Dakota Adams had two RBIs each for Cougars. Letcher is 11-6 on the season.

King was the winning pitcher in relief. Dustin Jewell took the loss on the mound for the Pirates.

In the second game on Saturday, Belfry was mercy ruled 15-0 by Hazard. The got behind 5-0 in the first inning. Neither team scored the next three innings. Hazard plated three in the bottom of the 5th inning and then eight in the 6th.

Hazard (17-4)was led in hitting by Austin Johnson with two hits including a double and three RBIs. Jacob Roll had two RBIs and Cole Ratliff had a pair of singles and two walks in four plate appearances

The winning pitcher was Blake Lockhart who hurled five shutout innings of relief of Jacob Francisco. Keaton Taylor took the loss for Belfry.

Belfry got hits from Eli Huddle and Reed Williamson.
