Ladycats lose one-run game to Jenkins

JENKINS -Visiting Betsy Layne held its own versus 14th Region frontrunner Jenkins on Thursday. In the end, however, host Jenkins managed to fend off Betsy Layne’s challenge, edging the Ladycats 2-1.

With the win, Jenkins improved to 18-3. Jenkins claimed its 13th straight win.

Betsy Layne dropped to 7-7. The Ladycats had a two-game winning streak snapped. Prior to falling to Jenkins, Betsy Layne had posted back-to-back wins over 58th District/Floyd County Conference foe Allen Central and Phelps.

Jenkins sophomore pitcher Caitlynn Estevez claimed the win. Estevez held Betsy Layne scoreless through the first three innings.

Betsy Layne sophomore pitcher Brandy Morrow took the loss. Morrow gave up the game’s first run in the bottom half of the second.

Betsy Layne had its offensive chances in the tough road game.

Kennedy Bias and Eddi Akers led Betsy Layne with doubles. Akers collected Betsy Layne’s lone RBI.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to host Jenkins on May 6.

The Ladycats are slated to visit Phelps on Wednesday. First pitch for the Betsy Layne-Phelps game is set for 6 p.m.
