Pirates fight off Warriors 6-2

GOODY, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates fought off the East Ridge Warriors 6-2 in baseball action on Thursday evening at the BHS field.
East Ridge took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. The rally could have gotten more runs for East Ridge, but poor base running cost them.
In the top of the 1st inning, Zack Ratliff led off with single to center, but was picked off at second base as pitcher Sean Hurley threw to first baseman Zac Fields, who tossed it to second baseman Keaton Taylor who tagged Ratliff out.
Then Johnny Miller doubled to left field, stole third base and scored on an error.
Christian Hagy singled to left for the Warriors, but was caught stealing Caleb Stanley fired the ball to second base.
Belfry tied the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. Austin Rollins led off and was hit by a pitch, then stole second base. Then with two outs Zack Francisco grounded an RBI single up the middle to score Rollins.
Belfry took the lead in the 3rd inning as Taylor singled to left, then advanced to second base on an infield groundout, then stole third. He scored on overthrow by catcher Dalton Smith.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, with one out, the Pirates Zac Fields singled to left. Travis Maynard came in as a pinch runner, then Stanley singled to center field. Keilan Carr came in as courtesy runner for Stanley, who is the catcher. With two outs, Rollins reached safely on error by the shortstop, Miller. Both Maynard and Carr scored and Taylor has an RBI double to right field.
In the Belfry 5th inning, Francisco led off with a walk, then went to third base on an error by the first baseman. He then scored on an error by the left fielder Elijah Epling. Eli Huddle had singled and then the error let Francisco score.
East Ridge got another run in the top of the 6th inning. Miller led off and reached first base on an error by Zac Fields, then scored with two outs on and error by second baseman Taylor.
Senior Sean Hurley picked up the win on the mound. Reed Williamson was credited with a save. Hurley went four innings, while Williamson pitched three innings.
Belfry turned two double plays in the game, Francisco-Taylor- to-Fields and Taylor-Francisco-to-Fields.
Christian Hagy took the loss for the Warriors. He only gave up one earned run. The other five were unearned.
