PRESTONSBURG — Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s Academic Team came in second in Division II of the Kentucky Collegiate Quick Recall league. The team may have been small in number — five to be exact — but they were not lacking in ability, as the team rallied to take second place to University of Louisville’s Division II team.
The University of Louisville ended the academic year 2012-13 with 16 wins and 1 loss, with total points of 808; BSCTC’s Team finished with 13 wins and 6 losses and a total point score of 978. Yes, that’s more total points than UofL even in second place. This happens because the standings are determined by wins and losses. Points come into play only if there is a tie between teams for first place.
Members of the BSCTC Academic Team 2012-13 are Andrea Blackburn, Brandon Compton, Brandon Gross, Zane Maheu and Brandon McCoy.
These students not only possess the ability necessary to compete with four-year institutions like University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Ohio Southern and Miami Ohio, to name a few, but also raised their own funds for overnight travel for the final meet at the UofL campus on Saturday, April 6.
