Belfry beats Allen Central on the diamond

ALLEN, Ky. – The Belfry Pirates improved their record to 14-15 with a 4-1 road victory over Allen Central Monday evening.
Belfry took an early lead in the bottom of the opening inning. With one out, Reed Williamson reached first base on an error by third baseman Tanner Hamilton. Williamson then scored on 2-out single to left field by Joey Duty. Eli Huddle followed with single to left, but the Pirates couldn’t add any more runs. However, they took a 1-0 lead.
Allen Central tied the game in the bottom of the 1st inning as Junior Handshoe led off with single to left field, but was forced out at second by grounder from Keaton Taylor to Zack Francisco. However, the Rebel base runner scored on double to left field by Gage Parsons.
Belfry regained the lead for good in the top of the 3rd inning. With one out, Williamson was hit by a pitch, then Francisco walked and Williamson scored on a single to center field by Duty.
The Pirates got an insurance run as Francisco scored on grounder to third base by Huddle.
Belfry got another run in the 7th inning as Taylor led off with single to left center. The speedy infielder then stole second base to get in scoring position. Taylor then scored on single to center field by Francisco.
Southpaw Dustin Jewell picked up the win on the mound for the Pirates of coach Michael Hagy. Jewell only gave up three hits, struck out six Rebel batters and only walked two. Duty picked up the save pitching a scoreless 7th frame.
Handshoe was the hard-luck loser for Allen Central. He pitched a complete game, had seven strike outs and only walked one batter.
