LAKE, W.Va. — Hettie Nichols Nelson, 81, of Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones.


Born April 14, 1932, at Lake, she was a daughter of the late William and Mandy Pridemore Nichols. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 62 years, Elmer “Shagpoke” Nelson, and three of her precious children, Sharon Rollins, Cathy Casto and Douglas Nelson.


Hettie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them. She was formerly employed by the Logan County Assessors Office.


Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sherry Nelson Vincent of Lake; a special granddaughter, Heather Vincent of Lake; grandchildren, Michael Douglas (Kelly) Aleshire, Mark Vincent, and Roger Ray (Frances) Castom all of Chapmanville, Teresa (Tim) Darnell and Doug (Amanda) Nelson, both of Lake, and Chawndala (Trevor) Tackett of Wharton; great-grandchildren, Makayla and Lauren Aleshire, Emily, Caylee, and Colton Eplin, Jonathan, Zack, and Brianna Casto, and Preston and Parker Nelson; daughter-in-law, Melody Nelson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.


Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Mt. Mission Church at Lake with Rev. Andrew Miller and Rev. Wally Kent officiating. Burial will follow in Nichols Family Cemetery at Lake.


Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Friday at the church.


Pallbearers include Mark Vincent, Mike Aleshire, Roger Casto, Douglas Nelson, Trevor Tackett, John Casto and Zack Casto.


Honorary pallbearers include Glen Nichols, Ralph Nichols, Joan Rollins, Billy Nichols and Patsy Jeffrey.
