WILLIAMSON - The “Williamson High School All Class Reunion” has been in the planning stage since letters first went out to alumni in December of 2012. Approximately 3000 letters were mailed with approximately 500 of those returned, and now the plans have been finalized.
According to planning committee members June Blevins (Chairman) and Sherry Hatfield (Treasurer), who have worked diligently on the reunion, the letter that the alumni received stated that the reunion would be held in Williamson on June 14, 15 and 16th of this year. Location for the reunion was given as the G. C. Murphy Parking Garage in downtown Williamson and that all activities would be held there. However, due to lack of response for this reunion, the location has been changed to the 2nd floor of the Williamson Fire Station, which is located on E. Fourth Avenue.
Registration for this event will take place in front of the Williamson City Hall (the old train station) across from the Fire Station, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on June 14th. The Memorial Service and the Hall of Fame Ceremony will remain at the First Baptist Church of Williamson on Saturday the 15th, beginning at 11a.m. The dinner/dance will be held at the Fire Station on Friday the 14th and the breakfast will be held there also, on Sunday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Because of having to change the venue for the reunion, space is limited. The Fire Station has a capacity of accommodating 300 people. Once that capacity is reached, no other reservations will be accepted. If alumni have not preregistered, there will be very few spaces left at the door on those evenings and no one will be allowed to go upstairs just to visit with their friends. Fire code says that once capacity is reached, others cannot be permitted on the floor.
“Time is of the essence,” stated Hatfield. “Once we reach 300 guests, we won’t be able to accommodate any more. I encourage anyone that is planning to attend to contact us as soon as possible to guarantee a placement.”
