MOREHEAD - Morehead State University head baseball coach Mike McGuire has announced the addition of two student-athletes. Max Price and Cable Wright will join the Eagle baseball program for the 2014 season.
A native of Denver, Colo., Price is transferring from Monterey Peninsula College, where he was a two-year starter at shortstop and an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection following his sophomore season. During his prep years at Cherry Creek High School, Price was named Honorable Mention All-State following a senior season that saw him hit .371 with a fielding percentage of .969.
“Max is very athletic and a gifted defensive player with great range and good arm strength,” McGuire said. “Offensively he handles the bat well and likes the small game.”
Hailing from Owingsville, Wright is wrapping up his career at Bath County High School, where he has received several accolades including Honorable Mention All-State as well as multiple all-tournament teams. He has led the team in batting each season of his career, while winning more than 15 games on the mound. His father, Roy, played baseball at Morehead State from 1976-79.
“We are very excited to add Cable to our program, and feel he will be an impact left-handed pitcher for us,” McGuire added. “He has a good three-pitch mix, and throws in the mid to upper 80’s. Cable missed his junior year of high school due to a knee injury so he has flown a little below the radar, but we feel his best days on the mound are ahead of him.”
