Lena Danese Fannin Amburgey, age 89, of Prestonsburg, wife of the late Rev. William Harrison “Bill” Amburgey II, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Riverview Healthcare, in Prestonsburg.
She was born Jan. 30, 1924, at Glo, a daughter of the late Joe and Olive Rice Fannin. She was a 1942 graduate of Wayland High School and Pikeville College.
She was a retired school teacher for the Floyd County School System; member of the Highland Avenue Freewill Baptist Church; volunteer at Highlands Regional Medical Center, where she was a past President of the Volunteer Auxiliary, having served over 7,000 hours as a volunteer; member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association; past President of the Mended Hearts Association; past President of the Floyd County Retired Teachers Association; and she was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Riverview Healthcare.
Mrs. Amburgey is survived by a son, William Harrison Amburgey III (Belinda), of Lexington; a daughter, Glenda Blackburn (Eugene), of Allen; a brother, William Joseph “Billy Joe” Fannin (Mary), of Newport News, Va.; a grandchild, Erich Blackburn (Rhonda); two great grandchildren, Julie Blackburn and Thomas Blackburn, of Pikeville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Danese was preceded in death by two brothers, Glen Fannin and Clyde Fannin, and two sisters, Lucille Sellards and Edith Cook.
Funeral services for Lena Danese Fannin Amburgey were held Sunday, May 26, at the Irene Cole First Baptist Church, in Prestonsburg, with Jerry Workman officiating. Burial followed in the Richmond Memorial Cemetery, in Prestonsburg.
Pallbearers: John H. Blackburn, Gary Garrett, Doug Wells, Sam Wade Wells, Don Hicks, Greg Gibson, Pete Dabney, Lloyd Daniels and Jitter Allen.
