PRESTONSBURG - Paisley Akers, a six-year-old who attends Prestonsburg Elementary, is excelling in gymnastics. She competes in double mini, trampoline and power tumbling events and has multiple first-place finishes to her credit in a pair of recent competitions.
On April 27, Akers competed in the USTA state competition at Morehead State University and placed first on double mini and trampoline. She also placed third on the floor event.
On May 18, Akers competed for an AAU state championship in Somerset. She achieved her goal with first-place finishes on double mini and trampoline. She also placed third on the floor event.
Akers has qualified for USTA Nationals, which will be held June 16 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She is the daughter of Brandon and Valerie Akers of Prestonsburg. Her grandparents are Carson and Sharon Akers of McDowell and Chad and Janet Vance of Hi Hat.
Akers competes under the guidance of coach Henry Young of ATTA.
