As West Virginia State Police (WVSP) officers performed a routine patrol on May 25, they observed a vehicle with no motor vehicle inspection sticker fail to stop at a stop sign.

A criminal complaint filed in the Magistrate Court of Logan County says the officers ran a check on the driver and discovered his license had been suspended and he had active warrants for grand larceny, driving suspended and simple possession.

Donald Edward Grimmett, 38, of Omar, was arrested and charged with driving suspended, no motor vehicle inspection, no proof of insurance, failure to stop at a stop sign in addition to the warrant charges of grand larceny, conspiracy, driving suspended and simple possession.

The warrant charges were related to incidents occurring in January of 2013, when WVSP officers answered a call in reference to a stolen vehicle. The victim alleged Grimmett and Candace Ferrell had stolen her vehicle.

The vehicle had been towed earlier in the day for a separate investigation by the Logan County Sheriff’s Department. The defendent was the driver at the time it was towed and various drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle. Charges by the sheriff’s department included possession less than 15 grams, failure to appear and driving suspended.

Grimmett’s bond was set at $10,000.

Candace Ferrell, 26, of Gilbert, was a passenger in the car being driven by Grimmett and stopped by the WVSP on May 25.

Officers observed Ferrell place something under the passenger seat of the vehicle and repeatedly disobeyed orders by the officers to keep her hands on the dash.

The criminal complaint says the officer located Ferrell’s purse under the seat. As they were searching the purse for weapons, they discovered two Carisoprodol 350 mg. (Schedule IV).

Ferrell was arrested and charged with simple possession and obstructing. Her bond was set at $2,500.
