Rebels limited in regional matchup

BELFRY - Allen Central faltered in the opening round of the 15th Region Baseball Tournament on Monday, falling to host Belfry. The Pirates, playing on their home field, blanked Allen Central 12-0 in five innings.


With the win, Belfry improved to 18-16 and advanced to semifinals of the 15th Region Tournament.


After suffering the season-ending loss, Allen Central ended the 2013 season 20-13.


The Pirates plated 12 runs in its first three at-bats. Belfry scored a dozen runs on 13 hits.


Belfry pitcher Fields hurled a complete game shutout. Zach Fields threw a three-hitter and registered two strikeouts.


Allen Central pitcher Junior Handshoe suffered the loss.


Reed Williamson led the Belfry offense with three hits and two RBIs.


Eli Huddle added two hits and three RBIs for the Pirates.


Aiding the Belfry attack, Keaton Taylor delivered two hits and an RBI.


Neither team committed an error in the region tournament tilt.


In other opening round games in the 15th Region Baseball Tournament it was Pikeville 4, Sheldon Clark; Lawrence County 5, Pike County Central 4 and Prestonsburg 9, Shelby Valley 4.
