PRESTONSBURG — A celebration of Burieta Gearheart was held May 26, at her home in Prestonsburg.
Gearheart is the recipient of the “Clubwoman of the Year” award, given by the Prestonsburg Woman’s Club. Accordingly, she received a certificate signed by club president Sabra Jacobs and Mayor Jerry Fannin. She also received a lapel pin to signify her tireless dedication to the community.
In addition to these honors, Gearheart also received the GFWC-Kentucky Clubwoman of the Year award. This award is bestowed upon one clubwoman from across the state, who has demonstrated exceptional devotion to the betterment of the community. Gearheart is the only member in the club’s 95-year history to earn this highest state honor.
Some of the things Gearheart has done this year to benefit her community include fundraising for community projects, donation of gifts for the annual Christmas in the Park celebration, visiting with residents of Riverview Health Center during the club’s annual Valentine’s Day party, and attending several club and district meetings.
