The Madison-Danville Jaycees
We all know that the lifesaving work of the American Cancer Society wouldn’t be possible without the support of millions of volunteers, businesses, community members, and partner organizations.
What you may not know, however, is that the United States Junior Chamber (Jaycees) are a national partner of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life.
Since the partnership began five years ago, Jaycee chapters across the nation have averaged 200 Relay For Life teams and have raised more than $1 million.
The Jaycees have a nationwide fundraising goal of $350,000 for the American Cancer Society through Relay For Life in 2013.
Earlier this year in January, the American Cancer Society had the opportunity to address more than 100 Jaycees Chapter Presidents, including a representative from the Madison-Danville chapter, at the annual Jaycees Leadership Academy in St. Louis.
During the event, attendees received training on how to effectively manage and grow a Relay For Life team and also had the opportunity to hear from cancer survivors, caregivers, and volunteers.
Attendees were also treated to a special presentation by Dr. Kimberly Johnson, an American Cancer Society funded researcher from Washington University.
Bringing back the training and knowledge learned at Leadership Academy, the Madison-Danville Jaycees are a top participator in the 2013 Relay For Life of Boone County.
To date, our team has raised nearly $1,000 through online donations, personal contributions, and our Zumbathon fundraiser in April.
Join us and the American Cancer Society on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 6 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. at Lick Creek Park in Danville for Relay For Life of Boone County.
We will be one of many teams and organizations participating in the evening’s events, such as the boxcar race, live auction, and frozen t-shirt contest.
We will also be selling drinks, popcorn, and energy bars as well as offering face painting for children.
All proceeds support the Madison-Danville Jaycees Team and Relay For Life of Boone County.
The Madison-Danville Jaycees welcomes new members and continually encourages the public’s input on community projects. General membership meetings are open to the public and are on the first and third Monday of the month. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are located at our Clubhouse, Room 202 in the Danville Community Center.
