Carolyn Ann Slater Faulkner Wright, 62, of Bellefonte, Ky., passed peacefully in her home Tuesday June 4, 2013, after an often difficult but courageous seven year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born May 19, 1951 in Williamson, the daughter of Marvin C. Slater of Williamson and the late Helen Johnson Slater.
She attended High school in Williamson, received her degree in elementary education from Marshall University, and her Masters in Special education from Morehead State University. She was also a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
She is known and remembered by many names, most knew her as Mrs. Faulkner, an elementary school teacher at Cannonsburg Elementary, who gave knowledge; many friends called her Carolyn, who gave compassion; a select and special few knew her as Mom, who gave understanding and wisdom; and the youngest as Nana, who gave earnest attention. To all, a great, powerful love.
In addition to her father, she is also survived by her husband, Ronald Wright of Bellefonte, daughters, Leigh Ann Tubaugh (Daniel) of Charlotte, N.C. and Megan Faulkner of Huntington, son, Marvin Chadwick Faulkner (Stephanie) of Phoenix, Ariz., sister, Barbara Plotner of Belo, special aunt, Margie Scott Leidecker of Ashland and four grandchildren, Madeline Lorelei Tubaugh, Graham Chadwick Faulkner, Lauren Lynn Faulkner and David Mason Tubaugh.
Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday June 8, 2013 at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ with Dr. Ike Nicholson officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Alliance at www.ovariancancer.org. Miller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Already, her absence is deeply felt and all the love she gave is returned, redoubled. The sadness at her death stands as testament to the profound joy of her life.
