Logan firefighters were called to the scene of a structure fire at Chatman Funeral Home in the area of Cherry Tree at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday.
Logan Fire Chief Scott Beckett said there were no occupants in the building and the firefighters did a great job confining the fire to the second floor, “They did an outstanding job of getting the fire extinguished. The building did have extensive smoke and water damage, but no structures near the facility were affected. We did have one firefighter fall about 15 feet from a ladder, but he was treated and released and is all right now.”
Chief Beckett says the building, which is owned by Todd Fields, has about $1 million in damage.
Beckett called in the state fire marshal’s office, who are on the scene completing an investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
Fields says he doesn’t understand why his business would be targeted. He plans to rebuild.
