West Virginia State Police officers were conducting a road patrol in the community of Chapmanville when they observed a red Pontiac Grand Am doing approximately 80 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour speed zone near Chapmanville Regional High School’s football field.

The criminal complaint filed in the magistrate court of Logan County says the officers stopped Bradley Akers, 42, of Omar, who exited the vehicle before the officers had approached.

Officers note in the complaint Akers’ speech was slurred, the smell of alcohol could be detected on his breath and his eyes were red and glassy. Akers admitted to the officers he had several beers. A preliminary breath test was administered, which indicated a blood alcohol content of .126.

Akers was charged with DUI (first offense), speeding, reckless driving and obstructing, with a felony charge of transporting a controlled substance in a regional jail added after an officer found two pink oval pink pills known as Xanxas and one white oval pill known as Hydrocodone (Lortab) 500.

Bond was set at $5,000.
