The Boone County Association of Retired School Employees (BCARSE) presented a scholarship to Polly Jones, of Quinland, and a graduating member of the Scott High School Class of 2013.

Judy Ballard, chair of the scholarship committee, made the presentation at Scott High School’s Awards Day ceremony on May 23, 2013 in the school’s gymnasium.

This is the first year for BCARSE to make available a scholarship. The $500 scholarship idea was presented by Gary Bell when he was president two years ago. It has become a reality and BCARSE fully plans to award a scholarship every spring. Every student qualifying for graduation from any recognized high school in Boone County is eligible to submit a resume.

Polly Jones lost her mother five years ago, following a sudden illness. She was raised by her grandmother, whom she said has been a great inspiration in her life. She is currently a nursing home volunteer and wants to become a nurse practitioner after college.
