COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Former Morehead State University standout Kenneth Faried is one of 27 players invited to the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp July 22-25 in Las Vegas, Nev.
A 6-foot-8, 228-pound forward for the National Basketball Association’s Denver Nuggets, Faried has averaged 11.1 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 56 percent in his two professional seasons. He posted 31 double-doubles in 2012-13, while ranking ninth in the NBA in field-goal percentage (.552).
This past year, Faried helped Denver to a team-record 57 wins, franchise-best 38-3 home record and 24-4 mark after the All-Star break. Faried was named Most Valuable Player of the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge after collecting 40 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes during All-Star Weekend.
The players invited by USA Basketball will assemble in Las Vegas on Sunday, July 21. They will conduct daily training sessions July 22-24 and close out the mini-camp with a 9 p.m. ET showcase - or blue-white intra-squad game - that Thursday at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Arena.
Faried, who helped MSU to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2009, 2011), was named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Male Athlete of the Year as a senior. He was a two-time OVC Basketball Player of the Year (2010-11) and three-time Defensive Player of the Year (2009-11).
Chosen as the 2011 Kentucky Sportsman of the Year, Faried was selected to multiple All-America lists his final campaign. He was also tabbed by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as the National Defensive Player of the Year after his final year.
Faried finished his college career with 1,673 rebounds. The total set the NCAA’s modern-era record, which was previously held by 14-time NBA All-Star Tim Duncan.
