Transitioning from military life to civilian life, especially for those who have served in combat, has to be difficult, but it is good to know that there are people and businesses out there willing to make this change smoother.
One such business is Walmart.
The massive nationwide corporation officially launched a program Monday - although it has been in effect for several months - that shows its commitment to veterans. Nationwide, the company is looking to hire about 100,000 veterans during the next five years. As part of that effort, Walmart is pledging to offer an interview to any honorably discharged veteran within the first 12 months of being released from active duty.
This program really shows how committed Walmart is to our nation’s veterans. Jobs are quite a big deal for those who have given so much to our country. Veterans should feel proud that a company as well-known and respected as Walmart wants them to be a part of their team.
By offering this program, they are giving back to veterans a chance of employment in a still difficult job market and adjustment period once they return home.
Walmart is also encouraging other businesses to make similar hiring commitments for veterans.
We are hopeful that other businesses follow Walmart’s lead in hiring those who have sacrificed so much for us. This is a great way for the business community to express its appreciation.
