Delegate Justin Marcum has presented a check for $250 to the Logan Empowerment, Action and Development (LEAD) Community Organization for their annual shoe drive.

Marcum said he was excited to hear that the LEAD organization had made a statement saying that they planned to open the shoe drive borders to include students in Mingo County.

“Children all over Southern West Virginia will be needing new shoes to star the school year and if we have the ability to assist anyone in getting those shoes, we will,” LEAD President, US Army Major Richard Ojeda said.

Last year the LEAD Community Organization sent 163 children to school with brand new shoes that the kids were able to pick out for themselves. This year the overall goal is to send at least 250.

“The LEAD Community Organization, along with Shoe Show at the Fountain Place Plaza, are committed to helping children across Southern West Virginia,” Ojeda said. “A donation such as this from Delegate Marcum, and recently the $1,000 check from the Logan County Sheriff’s Association, will go a long way in making that happen.

To apply for a voucher, forms can be picked up at the LEAD office located in the PRIDE office in Logan. Or they can be found on their website, www.leadcommunityorg.com or facebook page at www.facebook.com/LEADorg/
