LEXINGTON — Two Piarist School graduates received Bachelor of Arts degrees from Transylvania University on Saturday, May 26, during a commencement ceremony on the front steps of historic Old Morrison.


Elizabeth Rose Davis graduated summa cum laude with honors in English and a double minor in classics and history. She is the daughter of Brett and Virginia Davis, of Prestonburg. At the May 24 Senior Awards Program, Davis received the Ruchman English Award. The Ruchman Awards are presented to graduating seniors who have excelled in their academic disciplines.


Mary Maegan Lynne Leslie graduated with a major in biology. She is the daughter of Larry and Teresa Leslie of Prestonburg.


Founded in 1780 as the nation’s 16th college and the first college west of the Allegheny Mountains, Transylvania has a long list of distinguished alumni including two U.S. vice presidents, two U.S. Supreme Court justices, 50 U.S. senators, 101 U.S. representatives, 36 governors and 34 ambassadors.
