RICHMOND – Three baseball players have signed National Letters of Intent to play at Eastern Kentucky University, head coach Jason Stein announced.

Logan Hershenow, Caleb Johnson and Logan Starnes will join the program in the fall. Hershenow is a right-handed pitcher from Chesterfield, Mo. He spent the past two seasons at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo. Johnson is a right-handed pitcher from Lexington. Starnes is a catcher/right-handed pitcher from Somerset.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Hershenow made 15 appearances in 2013 at Jefferson College. He posted a 3-0 record with a 2.89 ERA. He struck out 23 batters and walked only seven in 37 and one-third innings of work. Hershenow did not allow an earned run over his final 12 and one-third innings.

As a freshman in 2012, Hershenow went 3-1 with a 3.78 ERA.

Johnson posted an outstanding season for Tates Creek High School. He finished with a 9-1 record and a 0.69 ERA. He struck out 68 batters in 61 innings and allowed only six earned runs. In the region championship game, Johnson struck out 10 over six innings to help the Commodores capture their first region title since 1990.

Starnes posted a 2.34 ERA and had a career record of 19-10 with 213 strikeouts on the mound at Southwestern High School. He also spent time behind the plate for the Warriors. The 6-foot, 180 pounder hit .406 and compiled 128 career hits with 13 home runs and 83 RBIs.

Starnes was selected to the all-district team the past three seasons, as well as 2011 and 2012 selections to the all-county team and was a 2012 all-state honorable-mention performer.

Starnes hails from the same county as former EKU All-Century and EKU Hall of Fame member, Josh Anderson.

The Colonels finished the 2013 season with a 23-34 record, but went 16-13 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Despite entering the OVC Tournament as the No. 5 seed, Eastern advanced to the championship round with three wins, including a 6-4 victory over No. 1 seed Tennessee Tech.
