StoneCrest Golf Course to hold free kids clinic

PRESTONSBURG - StoneCrest Golf Course will hold its annual free kids golf clinic June 25-27. The clinic is for youth ages 6-16 and will be held at Jenny Wiley Golf Course.
Applications for the clinic may be obtained at Jenny Wiley Golf Course or StoneCrest Golf Course.Registration will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25.
The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. until noon each day. Lunch will be served following the conclusion of the clinic.
Clubs are not needed for the clinic but anyone who has clubs may bring them. The proper attire suggested for the clinic is collared shirts and Bermuda length shorts.
Anyone interested in participating is asked to pre-register. For more information on the clinic, call the StoneCrest Golf Course Pro Shop at 886-1006.
Kentucky Junior PGA Championship Qualifier Round 1: The Kentucky Junior PGA Championship Qualifier hosted by Bardstown Country Club at Maywood kicked off Wednesday with the first round.Juniors were treated to perfect scoring conditions on a sunny calm day in Central Kentucky. Ben Banks from Elizabethtown and Nick Blankenship of Ashland led the Overall Boys Division with respective rounds of even par 72. Mason Carter of Owensboro and Will Sallee from Lexington were both one shot behind at 73. Kentucky’s 2012 Junior PGA Championship qualifier J.B. Williams from Danville and Brad Smith from Clay City were both in with 2 over par rounds of 74.
The 12 & Under 9 Hole Boys Division was led by Canon Claycomb from Bowling Green and Pearson Shafer of Louisville with 1 over par rounds of 37. Garrett Ashlock of Elizabethtown and Jesse Holton from Philpot were 3 strokes behind with rounds of 40.
Mary Joiner of Franklin, Ky led the Overall Girls after firing an even par round of 72. Jordan Webb from Franklin was three shots behind Joiner at 75. Jackie VanMeter of Bowling Green and Katie Page from Louisville were 4 back with rounds of 76.
