ALLEN - Veteran dirt Late Model driver Brandon Kinzer and his No. 18 team ventured to 201 Speedway in neighboring Johnson County on Saturday evening for the Moonshine Runner 50. The Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) presided over the one-day show, which boasted a $3,000 top prize. Kinzer, however, fell victim to a late-race mishap. Before then, the Floyd County driver laid down the fastest lap in his group during the qualifying session, which was second quickest overall and later took the win in his heat race.

After starting from the outside of the front row in the 50-lap main event, Kinzer took the lead at the drop of the green flag and paced the field through the early portion of the race. He gave up the point to eventual winner Jackie Boggs, but stayed within shouting distance through the remainder of the event. Unfortunately for the Floyd County raceteam, the Allen ace was involved in a tangle with only a handful of laps remaining, which cost him a podium finish and relegated him to a disappointing 14th place effort.
