Commission deals with county business

Ray Perry led the way through the agenda for the Logan County Commission. Perry says the dilapidated housing program is moving along very well. He told the commission four structures on Route 44 had been taken down and one was in the process now.
The total structures taken down by their owners is approximately 100, with about 365 in the process. That means there has been no expense incurred by the county.
According to Roscoe “Rocky” Adkins, 80 structures are in the paperwork process. At the beginning of the process, Perry said 411 structures were identified, and others have been added and may continue to be added after fires, etc., which accounts for the difference in the number left to process.
Jeremy Farley, WVU Extension Agent, spoke to the commission about the successful camp they have completed. This year is down from last, according to Farley, but he said they had 38 great kids who attended. He asked to be placed on the next agenda for the presentation of a large thank you card made by the campers.
Commission President Danny Godby held up a handful of thank you post cards from the campers and said, “Any time you work with and support kids, you support the framework of society.”
Man Little League nine and 10 year olds and 11 and 12 year olds had a donation of $200 for each group approved. The seven and eight year olds already received a donation.
Board member reappointments for Darrell Tomblin on the Health Department and Willie D. Akers Jr. and Allyn Sue Barker on the Corridor G Redevelopment Board were approved.
Chief Logan State Park received a Governor’s Community Participation grant for $5,000 to build an information kiosk and complete some other improvements.
Danny Ellis reported the W.Va. Department of Highways will contribute materials, pipe and stone which would have cost $10,000-$12,000 to complete repairs on drainage problems at Mitchell Heights. He requested an item be placed on the agenda for the next meeting to consider the remaining balance necessary to complete the repairs.
The commission went into executive session to consider a dispute in the Estate of Jimmie D. Vance, coming back to vote and affirm the report by Fiduciary Commissioner Edward Eiland.
Other estate matters were tabled along with the purchase of a fire engine for the Buffalo Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
The next meeting will be on July 8, 2013 at 3 p.m.
