Matewan 19, Baileysville 9

The Matewan Coach Pitch All-Stars advanced to the quarterfinals and claimed second place in Pool A with a 19-9 win over Baileysville on Tuesday night in the District 2 baseball tourney at Chapmanville.

Matewan finished pool play with a 2-1 mark and are slated to play the Madison No. 1 team on Thursday at 8 p.m. in one of the two quarterfinal games.

Baileysville finished 0-3.

D.J. Parker, Jacob Cantrell and Alton Bragg were each 5-for-5 at the plate to lead Matewan. Ava Williams was 4-for-4.

Bragg ended the game in the sixth inning with a bases loaded, walk-off, three-run triple. The three runs made it 19-9 and the mercy rule was envoked.

Dale Bledsoe, Jake Kennedy and Jessie Lester had two hits each to lead Baileysville.

Pool play was slated to conclude on Wednesday night as Pineville was set to face off with Welch.
