Robert Brent Beatty, 63, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, June 16, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Bob was born May 31, 1950, in Marietta, Ohio, to the late Robert Mercer and Marguerite Hardesty Beatty. He graduated from West Virginia University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and began his working career as a sales representative with CORCO in Columbus, Ohio. Moving to Prestonsburg in 1974, he was first employed by TCH Coal Company, then later became an equipment supervisor for Martin County Coal Corporation, co-owner of Char-Coal and of AMPS, and pharmaceutical representative for Bristol-Meyers-Squibb. He served as a Water Commissioner for the Prestonsburg Utilities Board for several years until his death.
Bob is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Marshall Beatty, of Prestonsburg; a son, Charles Robert Beatty; grandson, Elijah Brent Beatty; sister, Mary Anne Karl, of Greensboro, N.C.; niece, Stacey Karl; and nephew Alex Karl. He also leaves behind a host of friends who loved him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 29, at First United Methodist Church, in Prestonsburg. Visitation will precede the service, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the church.
