EKU catcher honored as All-South Region selection

RICHMOND – Eastern Kentucky University junior catcher Sean Hagen has been named second team Rawlings/ABCA All-South Region.
The Reading, Pa., native led the Colonels, and ranked sixth in the Ohio Valley Conference, with a .353 batting average. He was second on the team with 41 RBIs and third with 34 runs scored. He attempted 12 steals and was successful 10 times.
In May, Hagen was added to the Johnny Bench Award watch list and in June he was a semifinalist for the Gregg Olson Award, which is presented to the breakout player of the year.
The Colonels finished the 2013 season with a 23-34 record, but went 16-13 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Despite entering the OVC Tournament as the No. 5 seed, Eastern advanced to the championship round with three wins, including a 6-4 victory over No. 1 seed Tennessee Tech.
EKU adds three signees: The EKU baseball program recently added three signees. Logan Hershenow, Caleb Johnson and Logan Starnes will join the EKU baseball program in the fall. Hershenow is a right-handed pitcher from Chesterfield, Mo. He spent the past two seasons at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo. Johnson is a right-handed pitcher from Lexington. Starnes is a catcher/right-handed pitcher from Somerset.
