Logan County’s resident Superhero, Gabriel “Gabe” Lyall has not only invaded the hearts and prayers of Logan County, he has literally been handed the thoughts and prayers of thousands from all over the country.

Four-year-old Gabe is at Morgantown receiving chemotherapy treatments in his battle against Stage Four Hepatoblastoma, which is a rare liver cancer in children. He may also get a blood transfusion the doctors tell him is from Thor, Iron Man or one of the other Avengers.

Gabe’s Aunt Mary Ann “Sissy Bird” Robinson says she slipped into a dream as she was thinking of people having prayer conferences and those who wanted to do something to help Gabe.

“I had a dream. It was just as plain as day to bind them together,” I woke up thinking about it and when I went back to sleep, I saw hands.”

The message to cut out hands, say a prayer over the hands and mail them to Robinson went out from Facebook in April. Since that time, she estimates she has received more than 6,000 sets of hands.

“I got hands from area churches, schools and people, but I also received hands from Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Texas, Virginia, Florida—every day when I went to the mailbox, there were new sets of hands. Hands with prayer requests on them and some with prayers written on them. One mother sent hands made from her eight-month old infant’s hands and wrote the song “Jesus Loves Me” inside them. The response has been overwhelming,” said Robinson, “They aren’t just hands, they are thousands of prayers bound together.”

As one of the children sang “He’s got the whole world in his hands,” the group found the tie they needed to put it all together. They made a big hand representing the hand of God, where the display of hands begins and ends.

The Man Church Of God kicked off their Bible School on Monday, June 24 with the hands on display. On Sunday, June 30, Pastor Donald Lafferty, will have everyone hold hands, form a circle and bind with the hands to offer prayers with and for all the hands for Gabe, Skylar, Austin; everybody will be included.

This area has its share of substance abuse and crime, but in time of trouble, it can be bound together by one tiny superhero. As his aunt says, “It’s the hand of God. He has the whole world in his hands.”
