LOUISVILLE — A Prestonsburg attorney is one of 12 people selected for leadership positions in the Kentucky Bar Association.


Earl M. “Mickey” McGuire was re-elected to a two-year term on the Bar’s Board of Governors, during the Bar’s annual convention in Louisville June 19-21. He joins fellow Prestonsburg attorney Bobby Rowe, whose term ends next year, in representing the 7th Supreme Court District.


The KBA Board of Governors oversees the management of the Bar, an independent agency of the Kentucky Supreme Court with more than 17,400 members. All lawyers admitted to practice in Kentucky must be members of the Bar.


The KBA Board of Governors assists the Court in regulating the practice of law in Kentucky, including lawyer discipline, continuing legal education and lawyer advertising. Additionally, it works to promote the efficiency and improvement of the judicial system in accordance with Supreme Court Rules.


Others elected to Board of Governors include:


• Michael M. Pitman, Murray, 1st Supreme Court District


• John David Meyer, Owensboro, 2nd Supreme Court District


• Howard O. Mann, Corbin, 3rd Supreme Court District


• Amy D. Cubbage, Louisville, 4th Supreme Court District


• William R. Garmer, Lexington, 5th Supreme Court District


• J. Stephen Smith, Ft. Mitchell, 6th Supreme Court District


The Bar also elected officers to one-year terms. Those include:


• President: Thomas L. Rouse, Erlanger


• President-Elect: William E. Johnson, Frankfort


• Vice President: Douglass Farnsley, Louisville


• Immediate Past President: W. Douglas Myers, Hopkinsville


• Young Lawyers Division Chairman: Carl N. Frazier, Lexington
