The Man 9-10-year-old Little League All-Stars are just one win from reaching the state tournament.

Man improved to 2-1 and closed out pool play with Monday night’s 4-3 win over Madison at the Mullens Little League baseball field.

Man is scheduled to play one of the two semifinals on Wednesday against Pineville. Game time is set for 8 p.m. The first semifinal game is scheduled to be played at 6 p.m. between two undetermined teams.

The winners of the two Final Four games will not only advance to play each other on Friday at 7 p.m. in the District 2 championship game but will also automatically advance to play in the 9-10-year-old Little League State Tournament, scheduled to begin on July 13 in Bridgeport.

Man scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run on Madison in the bottom of the fourth inning on a fielder’s choice play, breaking a 3-3 tie.

Man then held Madison scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings to notch the victory.

Caleb Blevins was the starting and winning pitcher for Man. He finished with seven strikeouts.

Dillon Vitruls then came on to get the save as he fanned two batters. He ended the game and moved Man into the semfinals after picking off a runner from second base. Madison was threating to tie or go ahead with runners at first and second and two outs but Vitruls wheeled and gunned down the straying runner.

The 9-10 pool play was scheduled to conclude on Tuesday night as Chapmanville (1-1) played Mullens. Chapmanville beat Madison on Saturday in the opener and lost to Man on Sunday. Mullens was 2-0 heading into the game after wins over Man (10-7) and Madison (11-6).

There will be no games played on the Fourth of July.

After Friday night’s finals, Little League all-star tournament action picks up on Saturday with the opening day of the 11-12-year-old tourney at Madison.
