A Lincoln County Man faces charges after his two year old daughter was found unresponsive in a bathtub and is now in critical condition unable to breathe on her own, it has been reported.
Jason Riffe, 34, of Hart,s told West Virginia State Police in Hamlin that on July 13, 2013, he left his daughter in the bathtub for 10-20 seconds while he went to another room to get a towel.
Riffe claims he heard a noise from the other room and came back to find the girl unconscious.
Doctors who assessed the girl say it is not possible her injuries could occur to that extent during that time frame. They believe the girl was in the bathtub a lot longer than Riffe claims.
Riffe’s girlfriend told troopers he has a history of drug use and has manufactured meth at the home on numerous occasions, according to the criminal complaint filed in the case.
She also told troopers Riffe appeared to be under the influence at the hospital.
Troopers say Riffe later admitted to taking a Xanax pill. He turned himself in Wednesday afternoon, July 24, 2013.
Riffe is charged with child neglect resulting in injury and child neglect creating the risk of injury.
