ROANOKE, Va. — Olivia Mabry Thomas, daughter of Stephanie Poe-Thomas, formerly of Verner, and Adam Thomas of Roanoke, Va., competed in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Baton competition the weekend of April 12-13, 2013 at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md.


Olivia won the Intermediate Preteen (ages 10-12) Pageant title. With the pageant win, she represented the Mid-Atlantic Region in the National Twirling Championship pageant in South Bend, Ind., on July 22-25. AYOP, or America’s Youth on Parade, is the National Twirling competition sanctioned by the NBTA International, and occurs annually at the Notre Dame University Athletic and Convocation Center (JACC).


Olivia won the Regional Intermediate Preteen title by winning the solo and x-strut components of the pageant. She also holds the 2013 Mid-Atlantic Intermediate Preteen Regional X-strut title.


The weekend of June 22, Olivia competed at the NBTA Virginia State Twirling Competition in Glen Allen, Va., where she won the 2013 Virginia State Intermediate Preteen Solo award, as well as the 2013 Virginia State Intermediate Preteen X-strut award. She was runner up in the Advanced Preteen Showtwirl, and Beginner Preteen 2-Baton.


In January, Olivia competed in the Snow Festival in Richmond, where she won the Intermediate Preteen Snow Queen Title. She also won Intermediate preteen X-Strut and solo at this competition.


Olivia was a 5th grader at Back Creek Elementary in Roanoke and will attend Cave Spring Middle School in the fall. Olivia is the granddaughter of Butch Poe of Verner, the late Dorothy Poe and Wayne and Doris Thomas of Roanoke. Olivia is the great-granddaughter of Beulah Poe of Gilbert, and Joseph Phillips of Princeton. She is coached by Lori Cobb of York, Va., and danced with Divine Dance Center of Roanoke during the 2012-13 dance season.
