A seventh-grade student at Logan Middle School has been selected for inclusion in the 2013 edition of The Best Basketball Players of the Athletic Athletic Union.
Devin Collins, 12, son of James and Crystal Collins says “it is cool” to be listed in the publication and that for him, basketball “is a lot of hard work.”
Devin says his goal is to play college basketball and then go on to play for the National Basketball Association.
Devin’s parents say he plays a few hours six days a week and that his little sister Ava is his biggest fan.
This year was Devin’s second at playing shooting guard for the Pony Express team from Huntington.
The team travels to challenge teams in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky during its regular season and is coached by Alex Hogsett.
The team made the top 12 for the U.S. Basketball Association Boy’s National Championship during the tournament held at Myrtle Beach July 16 - 20, 2013, falling to the Atlanta Select in double overtime, losing by three points. Devin’s high scoring game at the nationals was 23 points. The rankings have yet to be released, but Collins expects the team to be eight or higher.
Local sponsors for the team include Hainer’s Collision & Customs, Inc., Rebuild Physical Therapy, Chapmanville Pharmacy, Temp Control Heating & Cooling, Southern WV Physical Therapy, Bailey Hardwoods, Garretson’s Machine & Fabrication, Unique Contracting and Thompson Electric Service.
