On Thursday, the Perry County Central football team played their one and only scrimmage game of the preseason, taking on the Pikeville Panthers.
Perry Central put a young and inexperienced team on the field, and at times it showed. The Commodores would play well at times, and then give up a big play.
The scrimmage started with a 10-play series. Perry Central was able to push the ball the length of the field, but failed to get the ball in the end zone. They were able to hold Pikeville out, as well.
The second series went to the JV players. The JV moved the ball well, but once again came up short.
However, this time Pikeville would find the end zone (Perry would score during the JV session).
The two teams would then finish the night with real game play, bringing out the chains. Perry Central would then pick up the pace. The Commodores scored on a couple of possessions, but the defense would give up a few more touchdowns than the offense collected.
The Commodores will have to use the information gained in this scrimmage to correct their problems in a hurry as they open their season on Friday at their new field, hosting the Clay County Tigers.
