PRESTONSBURG — Floyd County Schools menus will be getting a boost to health foods following recent funding approval.
Supt. Henry Webb announced this week that all Floyd County elementary schools have been awarded funding for the 2013-14 school year from the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
“For the first time, all of our elementary schools are receiving over $174,000 in funding to regularly provide fresh fruit and vegetables to our kids,” said Webb. “This grant program not only tries to provide healthier snack choices for our kids, but makes a difference in their diets and can impact their future health.”
Webb says the board team has been working hard to help make excellence in achievement the reality in all areas of academia, and that the new fruit and vegetable program will help bolster those efforts.
“Our CEO program is providing all students with breakfast and lunch at no cost to our families and this year every elementary student will have fresh fruit and vegetable snacks. We want our kids to have every opportunity to be as healthy as possible so that they’re ready for learning opportunities.”
