PRESTONSBURG - Two Floyd County schools were recognized this week by the Big Sandy Area Community Action programs for being among the best Headstart programs.

Both Duff Elementary and McDowell Elementary were recognized for having two of the top 12 best overall Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) scores for 2012-13.

Tristan Parsons and Romana Stewart of Duff Elementary and Tammy Gearheart and Jessica Kiser of McDowell were recognized for their efforts with those programs.

“We’re always excited to see our team members and students recognized regionally but what’s great about this recognition is that CLASS is all about learning,” said Floyd County Superintendent Henry Webb. “There are over 60 Head Start classrooms in the five county area of Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin and Pike counties and for the 2012-2013 year, two of our classrooms rank in the top 12.”

“Once again, the board team and I want to congratulate Tristan, Ramona, Tammy and Jessica for creating classrooms of excellence for our kids.”

Floyd County Schools strive to be a district of excellence says Webb adding that the CLASS Awards are examples of the Floyd Counties dedicated staff is doing their best for kids.
