The young Man High School boys’ basketball team had a tough task on Tuesday night — a road game at Class AA Westside.
The Hillbillies took it on the chin with a 105-55 loss to the Renegades at the Westside High School gym in Clear Fork.
Man dropped to 2-7 on the season with the loss.
It was the second 50-point defeat so far this season for Man. The Billies’ other 50-point loss was a 94-44 setback at Chapmanville in the Tigers’ Bob Runyon Memorial Holiday Tournament last month.
Westside (6-4) dominated the game with Man, dishing out 35 assists and scoring 40 baskets.
Corey Bowles, Jordan Browning and Justin Kenneda each had seven assists apiece for the winners.
Bowles also scored 21 points, while Levi Lambert and Justin Cogar added 20 points each for Westside.
Freshman guard John Thomas Keffer paced the Billies with a game-high 26 points. He nailed four 3-pointers on the night.
Jake Adkins tossed in eight points for Man, while Clay Brumfield had seven and Kenny Joe Adkins and Gage Harvey tallied four each. Chris Justice and Cayce Mullins netted two each. Erik Files and Robert Caudill had one point apiece.
Man was just 3-for-10 from the free throw line for 30 percent. Westside connected on 22-of-26 charity tosses for 84.6 percent.
The Renegades led Man 22-15 after one quarter and held a 45-25 advantage at the half. The third quarter was a disaster for the Billies as Westside outscored Man 38-7 to take a 83-32 lead. Man then outscored WHS 23-22 in the fourth to set the final score.
Westside travels to Class AAA Logan (2-6) on Friday night at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.
Man was slated to host new Class A sectional rival Tug Valley on Wednesday night. The Billies host Westside in the rematch on Jan. 15.
